Jobs again

September 22nd, 2004 · Posted by Skuds in Work · No Comments · Work

A new job has been created at work, where they have spotted a gap in the organisation (and, dare I say, recognised that they may have made a mistake when they removed my old job last year?) I have been asked if I want to be seconded to do it for a while to get the job established and then move into it permanently at some point. Its the same grade and everything as what I am doing now, so would not pay any more, but its a lot more interesting than what I do now.

On the other hand, one of my old staff is leaving and his job will be vacant. Its a grade lower than mine, but I think the pay scales overlap so much that I could keep the same salary even if I dropped a grade. The work is not so interesting (though still better than what I do now) but its a shift job which means generous shift allowances that could mean an extra 10 thousand a year before tax. It would mean some night shifts and weekends and bank holidays, but as the shifts are long there are not so many of them which means lots of days off – opportunities to be off work on weekdays and thus be able to get to the community centre and do the accounts more regularly.

I’m not sure what I want to do. I could do with the extra money and extra days off, and don’t have any hang-ups about what my grade is, but would I get too pissed off with the constant moaning, whinging and bitching on the help desk?

Just seen the draw for the next round of the League Cup. West Ham are away to Chelsea. Oh dear… we will be playing against all those good players we had to sell off over the last few years.
