Not a good day….

I think my faltering relationship with PayPal is at an end. I tried to set up an account with them, which immediately got “limited”. They said that an unauthorised use of a credit card associated with it was reported. Hm. The bank mentioned nothing. So I had to supply more information and proof of identity to get the limitation lifted, but every time I did that there was another request. Eventually they said there were other accounts linked to mine, so I started asking them for information about these accounts, and why they thought they were linked. Basically I got stroppy with them. I said that if they believed these other accounts were linked to me then I had a right to know what information was held on them. I also criticised them for sending the same e-mail to me twice (so instead of reading and answering my mail they just re-sent one of their boilerplate mails) and I topped it off by moaning that their emails do not have a reply address – you have to log onto the website and fill in a form to send a mail. And if you take too long writing it the session times out.

Anyway, I had a reply from them today saying that they feel they are unable to continue doing business with me.. what business?? The account was locked before it was ever used! The email went on about how I could disburse any remaining balances. The balance is zero, as it has always been. I had said in my earlier emails that I wanted nothing to do with them if they could not supply details of these ‘linked’ accounts so I replied to say that I agreed with them, but I would still like them to supply the information I asked for, and which it is my right to have. Their whole setup seems pretty poor, if they will allow people to give a free anonymous email account as a contact in a monetary arrangement.

The trouble is that they more or less have a monopoly on eBay transactions and a lot of sites only accept PayPal, so my options for dealing online are limited because of their incompetence. I will NOT be recommending them to anyone, and if I ever have a business online I will be looking at alternative methods of payment. I am not the only person to have this sort of trouble – just look at this web site for more stories of woe. It looks like there is a class action going ahead. Maybe I should join in.

Other bad news was a letter from my employer telling me that they have discovered I am getting paid an allowance I should not be getting and that will be stopped immediately. So next week my wages will be 10% lower. The silver lining is that the letter made no mention of trying to claw back any historical payments.
Meanwhile, the money our landlords owe me is still not here. Apparently they are waiting for it to be sent to them from some unspecified place first.

All in all I feel like the whole world is conspiring to piss all over me today!

Shame, because I felt very positive this morning. I even wore a jacket and tie to work – the first time I have worn a tie since July (apart from an interview).
