Crawley Hospital

October 14th, 2004 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 3 Comments · Life

I had to go down to Crawley hospital this evening with the eldest boy to get the stitches removed from his arm. The hospital has had a lot of reorganisation lately and the casualty department has been downgraded to a minor injuries unit or walk-in centre or whatever they call it. This has generally been unpopular with everyone in town. Mind you, I have used the minor injuries unit at Guys hospital in London and found it to be OK, and the Crawley one seems OK too. Certainly the waiting time is a lot less than at a traditional casualty department.

I have been down to the walk in centre today, having recently moved into the area I thought it was an A & E, I was seen and treated and out within 2 hours, I was very impressed, however the Dr that saw me said he would do some blood tests to make nothing sinister was going on and would call me at home (which he did at the allotaed time), he told me he was releuctant to send people to Redhill as he himself waited for 7 hours last year with a grumbling appendix before being sent home with no treatment, only to be returned overnight it having burst. He said they are far too busy and if they can treat someone at West Green it’s better that they attend there instead. I was very impressed with the service.

It’s always good to hear someone praising an NHS service. They are doing a job I would run a mile from against enormous odds and sometimes it seems as if they only ever get criticised. My stepdad is back in hospital again and he and Mum seem to have been treated so well, with so much care and sympathy that the whingers make me very anoyed…

What, what, what? Couldn’t you have found a better way to tell me?
