Power

This afternoon I went down to The Friary (the hall attached to the main Roman Catholic church in town) to see the hustings. All the local parliamentary candidates were there, except for the BNP. Even Arshad Khan was allowed to spout his nonsense.

Afterwards I was chatting to one of the local Tories (one who is a decent sort of bloke. Seems too nice to be part of the ‘nasty party’) and took the opportunity to ask him if he could explain his party’s policy on immigration. Specifically I wanted to know how this extra points for going to Scotland which Michael Howard mentioned on Question Time would work. The only answer I got was, “Did he say that?” It looks like the suspicions that Michael Howard is making it all up as he goes along might have some truth in it.

Returning from the power struggle in town, I returned to a power crisis at home. There was no electricity! There I was, looking forward to putting ‘Gillette Soccer Saturday’ on to see how Southampton were doing against Norwich, and there was no electricity. The power returned about 10 minutes from full-time, after a false alarm when it returned briefly for 2 minutes. I was beginning to worry about my chances of seeing the Daleks on Dr. Who tonight…
