When you think about the number of songs and artist who have been banned from the radio, television and even record shops for supposedly obscene lyrics – often just the liberal use of swear words in punk songs – its a bit of a surprise to see how far we have come now.
On tonight’s Later with Jolls Holland on BBC2 there was Martha Wainright, a young lady in a yellow dress playing an acoustic guitar and singing. One song had the lyrics “bloody, motherfucking asshole” repeated over and over.
Or maybe swearing is OK if its ‘unplugged’ and thats where the Sex Pistols went wrong…
