Its official. According to the Standards Board for England it is fine for councillors to refer to the BNP as ‘nazis’.
In this ruling, released last week, their investigators said that Councillor Gavin Stollar of the Lib Dems, in refering to the BNP as nazis, did not make comments which were disrespectful or capable of bringing his authority into disrepute.
Is that right though? I am sure Mr Stollar has no respect for the BNP, and why should he? Wouldn’t it have been great for the Standards Board to say that the comments showed disrespect, but that it was entirely deserved?
By the way, do check out the link to Gavin Stollar’s profile on the Lib Dem web site. His email address shows that the Liberals have not lost their propensity for misplaced optimism. It is almost on a par with “go back to your constituencies and prepare for government”.
