I would not normally recommend a repeat, but tonight ITV is showing John Pilger’s documentary Stealing A Nation at 11pm.
This is of particular local significance to Crawley and West Sussex as many of the islanders affected have settled here. As their port of entry to the UK was Gatwick airport it fell on West Sussex and Crawley councils to deal with the problems of settling many of the Diego Garcians.
There is now a reasonably large Diego Garcian community in Crawley. I have met a few of them as one of the members of the Broadfield church is very active in helping them get organised and sorted out and our community centre has hosted several social events for them as well as meetings with MPs about the issue.
I missed the programme the first time round so will make sure I catch it tonight.
