I think some people can be too kind.

I went to a campaign meeting at the Labour club. Our MP was there, and so was her husband. They had come from different places so came in two cars.

This was good news for me, as I only live a few doors away and needed a lift home. Colin had arrived first, in their old Ford people carrier which they are currently selling, and Laura arrived later in their brand new Jeep.

I had already asked Colin for a lift but when we went outside I asked if I could go back with Laura as I had not had a go in the Jeep yet. “Why don’t you drive it?” she said!

I was a bit hesitant as I am still having trouble adjusting to our Renault Laguna, especially the parking, after having an Astra for so long. (Some of the roads in Crawley are a bit tight with parked cars – I did actually clip a wing mirror last week)

“Tell you what”, she said, “I’ll go back with Colin, you’ll find it easier on your own.”

I would be worried enough driving an unfamiliar car if it was mine, but for it to be someone else’s and only a month or two old, and the size of a small house… One thing I know for certain is that if I had a brand new top-of-the-range car I wouldn’t let any neighbours drive it unaccompanied.

Well, I did it, but I would have been happier in the passenger seat. Jayne is really going to be jealous now though.
