Thanks to Jo Salmon for drawing my attention to this news from Telewest
They say they are going to increase the speed on their broadband service to a minimum of 2Mb/s for their £17.99 service. Their ‘complete’ service will go up from 2Mb/s to 4Mb/s and the ‘elite’ service will go up from 2Mb/s and 4Mb/s to 10Mb/s.
I can’t wait. They are doing it region by region. When they last upgraded this region was last because it was all the old Eurobell infrastructure which they bought up and they had to integrate it all properly first. With any luck we won’t have to wait so long this time.
When it happens I will have a decision to make. At the moment I am perfectly happy with the performance of my 1Mb/s service – even with 3 PCs sharing the connection. When it goes up to 4Mb/s I could just enjoy a quadrupling of speed or I could ‘downgrade’ to the basic service, have speed double of what I am used to and save £7 a month.
In the longer term, NTL are going to buy Telewest, and I am hoping they will give us the best of both worlds – the 10Mb/s speed of NTL and the lack of data limits of Telewest.
