We are supposed to be having these perseid meteor showers tonight, and the predictions are that it will be a particularly good one.
I have been out for a look but didn’t see a lot. In about 15 minutes I saw 3 shoting stars. Its supposed to be at its peak between 2 and 5 so I will try again.
Conditions here are far from ideal for looking at the stars. Our back garden is reasonably well-shielded from the street lights in our road by the bulk of the house, and the trees at the back cut out light from Tollgate Hill, but the sky still looks more blue than black.
I can’t look to the North as there is a lot of glare from Gatwick and the rest of the town.
The advice from experts is to get out of town and away from sources of light pollution to have a really good view, but I am reluctant to do that. I’m just worried that if I drove out into the country a bit and found a convenient place to park up there would be a risk of getting into a blogger/dogger mistaken identity situation.
