Tree fellers

August 12th, 2005 · Posted by Skuds in Life · No Comments · Life

Whether or not to fell trees for whatever reason is a question which crops up from time to time. In the last couple of weeks there have been a couple of stories in the local paper about this. In one case the council’s development control committee (and I hope they are ashamed of themselves) allowed a chap to cut down a large mature oak in his garden. Not because its roots were a danger to the house, or because it was diseased or anything, but because it created too much shade in his garden. Apparently he did not notice the tree when he bought the house only a couple of years ago as it was winter and not in full leaf!

I’m sure that for some people a large mature oak would be a feature they would be proud of and might even add to the value of the house for them. But any future buyers there will just have a large stump as a conversation piece.

Anyway, over at A Gurn From Nurn Graisg tells about a 25-metre sequoia which is at risk from a development.

I don’t know a lot about trees, but that sounds like a pretty impressive one to me. If anyone has any good tips for protecting that tree I’m sure Graisg would welcome them.

Even if they are in English.
