One of the pleasures of Sky Digital is having TV5 available. Years ago when I had an analogue dish there were a few European channels available free on the Astra satellite – RTL4, Rai Uno, Sat1, and a few others, as well as MTV Europe when it was pan-European and had quite a few non-British and American videos on it. Now TV5 is the only one left unless you get specialised equipment.
A lot of TV5 is, frankly, unwatchable for me as I can’t really understand the language, but every now and then they feature concerts which would be unlikely to turn up on our channels.
Tonight they had 52 minutes of Cheb Mami playing live in Paris, which was a real treat.
