Gang of Four

I found this site today. It gives details of all the forthcoming music releases. There are a few goodies to look forward to in the rest of this year – new albums from Audio Bullys, Afro Celt Sound System, New Model Army (!), Franz Ferdinand, the Darkness, Busta Rhymes, Dr Dre and loads more. Also some live DVDs – the Darkness, Noir Desir, George Harrison’s concert for Bangladesh and all the Live 8 shows.

Its not all good news though. There is a Paris Hilton CD in the pipeline and Max Boyce’s greatest hits and a new tATu CD. Interesting to see a couple of Pink Floyd-related DVDs, but still no proper concert DVD.

Best of all is the news that Gang of Four release Whitey’s Gift on September 19th. For some reason this does not show up on Amazon yet. Its a strange album for the band as its a load of tracks from their first couple of albums newly re-recorded. Now you expect that sort of thing from Mike Oldfield or Jean-Michel Jarre, but from a marxist post-punk industrial funk band? The second CD in the set is a load of remixes or covers of their songs. (According to punknews.org)

On top of that, Gang of Four have a tour coming up, with one measly date in the UK, at the Barbican on Sept 25th. I’m not sure the Barbican is a great venue for them so I might give that a miss – the chances of being able to get tickets for it are slim anyway.
