I was watching a film of Green Day playing at the Milton Keynes bowl today and towards the end there was a real Monty Python & The Holy Grail moment.

It was one of those bits where the band just thump out a rhythm so the singer can talk a bit. Usually they do this so he can introduce the band, and there is probably a technical term for it. Anyway, Billy Joe Armstrong was saying something like “Forget about who you vote for and who I vote for. Whoever we elect has to realise that we are the leaders. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do.” It would have been more effective if he did not then immediately tell the crowd to clap along and have 65,000 sheep do exactly what he told them.

A mate of mine says that Apache Indian did exactly the same thing at the Croydon Mela last year with an equal lack of irony.

Monty Python really were before their time.
