Yesterday’s Guardian had a whole page of quotes from Tony Banks, showing that he was, indeed, capable of far wittier comments than the famous “foetus” or “sex-starved boa constrictor” lines. Even the “pig’s bladder on a stick” comment gained a lot by being put in context.
In true political style, although he had plenty to say about Thatcher, Major, and the rest of the Tories, he saved his best lines for Mandelson.
And who can resist a line like “Bringing a leadership to its knees occasionally is a good way of keeping it on its toes.”?
