Video Crisis

January 13th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Technology · No Comments · Technology

On returning home from seeing Think Floyd, I had an appetite for a little bit of the real thing and put one of their concert videos in the machine. I shoved the tape in, but it would not play.

Then I found that it would not wind forwards or backwards either and, most importantly, it would not even eject.

I am a little put out that the VCR is knackered, but too much. I don’t watch videos much now anyway. If I have to take the thing to the tip it will not break my heart and I won’t bother replacing it, but I am gutted that my concert video might have to go with it.

To make it worse, the trapped tape is not Pulse, which I can replace next month when the DVD comes out, but the Delicate Sound of Thunder video. Not only does it contain a Dogs of War which is one of my favourite tracks, but it brings back such great memories of the first time I saw Pink Floyd back in 1988 at the Sydney Exhibition centre, and the lighting rig on that tour still fascinates me.

I often think that if I could live my life again there is nothing I would change, as even the bad things were necessary to get me to here, but now if I could live my life again I would keep it the same up to tonight and then sacrifice the Pulse video instead.

Looks like I’ll be trawling eBay for a replacement.

On the positive side, the VCR now shows the time, which is handy.
