WordPress 5-minute install

February 21st, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Technology · No Comments · Technology

Tonight I finally bit the bullet and tried to install WordPress. I feel cheated as it only seemed to take about 4 minutes.

I really should have just taken Jo’s word for it and gone ahead last week.

I think that what screwed me up was trying to read the documentation. I read beyond the 6-step, 5-minute install instructions and looked at some of the detailed instructions so I was fretting about whether I have phpMyAdmin available and how easy it would be to install.

All I have to do now is decide whether to import all this rubbish to WordPress or just leave it here. It looks like an easy process – built in to the new version of WP – but it depends on having the CURL extension to PHP enabled. Guess what? I chose one of the few hosts which does not have that enabled. Doh!

It looks like my decision is going to depend on whether those nice support people will install CURL (whatever that is) on their servers.

In the meantime I could try and get the look & feel sorted out before actually writing anything.

Update: those support people would not install CURL so I am moving all my archives across by hand!
