My broadband connection disappeared today. I had logged on and left a comment on someone else’s blog, then gone off to do something. When I returned I had no signal at all.
I did not worry about it too much as I had plenty of things I wanted to do, urgent important stuff like reading the Sunday paper and watching the football on TV.
When I turned the computer on again this evening there was still nothing. The kids were moaning that they couldn’t exchange cryptic messages on MSN, Jayne couldn’t check her e-mail, Chas thought it was his wireless connection that was out and I had a lot of trouble explaining that it was not just him.
In the end I just unplugged the router and cable modem completely and sat down to watch Planet Earth and Panorama. When I plugged it back in it worked.
This happens sometimes. It also happens with the Sky Digital box. In both cases you cut the power and leave it and it works – this is the official advice given by the help desk so I don’t call them now. I just do it myself.
This is why I always treated The IT Crowd as a documentary. (Whatever happened to that? Did they only make 4 or 5 episodes or did it just get pulled?)

Afaik there were six episodes screened, with two the first week. Apparently it’s been picked up for a second series, which makes me happy 🙂
