While I was waiting at Clapham Junction for a train home yesterday an old-fashioned steam train passed through the station on the way to Victoria (I am guessing).
Trains were already electrified by the time I was born, so I have seen very few full-sized steam locomotives, but whenever I have seen them I have always been overwhelmed by the sight of the steam.
Not in a nostalgic wasn’t-everything-better-in-the-old-days way, because like I said I don’t remember them at all, but just amazement at how much there is and how long it lingers. Looking at it yesterday I was trying to imagine what Clapham Junction would be like if the 50 trains an hour (or however many there are) were all chucking out clouds like that.
