Two things you do not want to hear in the same breath: ‘flood’ and ‘server room’.
This afternoon there was a bit of a flap when someone discovered some water in the room containing half a dozen racks full of servers. By the time I left it was looking manageable as all the cabling is in trays above the real floor and all the big stuff is on the false floor.
Now I have just had a call from work. Instead of a few drops of water, we have a deluge of sewage in the server room. The mains power is going to be going off so my lot are evacuating and going to another office.
Its going to be a fun day tomorrow. I’ll have to get up extra early and phone ahead to see where I am going to go.
Putting the server room, the UPS battery banks, and the backup diesel generator on the bottom floor underneath the railway arches must have seemed like a good idea at the time.
