On the way to Cardiff. Again.

April 23rd, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 2 Comments · Life

West Ham are off to Cardiff for the second year running. Last year it was the Championship play-offs: this time round its the FA Cup Final, with a place in next year’s UEFA Cup competition already guaranteed just for reaching the final. What a difference a year makes.

It was good to see them get through. John Lyall, who died this week, would have been happy. He was not only in charge of the team the last time they won the FA Cup, but he was in charge during the time I started supporting the Hammers and was able to get to home games regularly – back when you could just turn up and go in without having to commit to a season ticket.

Much as it would have been fun to see another all-London final, I’m glad that its Liverpool we will be facing, and thats not because I think they will be any easier to beat – its because of their supporters. When I watched the other semi-final and saw the scousers staying behind afterwards, singing You’ll Never Walk Alone and celebrating I thought how brilliant a cup final would be with a stadium full of Hammers & Scousers singing their anthems. Seeing our lot staying behind today and singing ‘Bubbles’ just confirmed it.

And now we get to find out on May 13th.

Sincere good luck in the final. Not sure I could take another red & white trophy laden open-top bus tour after last year’s.I’d have to go on holiday for a week.

    Hi Andy

As I’m from the north I nearly always support northern teams against southern teams.

However look at the number of British / Irish players in the starting lineups for the last 5 Premiership games (in reverse order):

    West Ham 9, 10, 9, 10, 9

    Liverpool 4, 3, 5, 4, 4

    That’s all,
