The Sultan’s Elephant

April 28th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Music · No Comments · Music

Its possible that I will have other things to do on May 4th, but if I didn’t I think that I would be going up to London to see the Sultan’s Elephant.

No regrets though, its going to be around until Sunday so I might take a trip up to town at the weekend to see it because its all been devised by a French theatre company. Say what you like about the French, but they do know how to produce a spectacle which is worth watching even if you don’t understand it.

Its a long time since I saw Jean-Michel Jarre at his Docklands concert, Circus Archaos at Clapham Common, and Urban Sax at County Hall so I’m due another dose of elaborate and over-the-top Gallic visuals, and I have never seen a forty feet high, time-travelling mechanical elephant before.

If that is not enough, the following weekend sees another French-flavoured spectacular at the Brighton Festival, where there will be a show by the group responsible for the fireworks at the start of the Athens Olympics and the exploding Eiffel Tower at the millenium celebrations. Sounds like just the way to unwind after watching West Ham lift the FA Cup earlier in the day.
