New VCR goodness

May 25th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Music/Technology · No Comments · Music, Technology

Back in January my old VCR died, and I was reconciled to living without access to the few essential things I still have on VHS.

This week I managed to lay my hands on one in return for a token donation to a charity, and 4 months late I was able to watch a bit of Pink Floyd in concert from 1994 to get that out of my system.  Best of all I don't have to choose between disposing of a load of perfectly good tapes, leaving them to take up valuable shelf space for no real purpose, or finding someone willing to copy them onto DVD for me.

I'll admit that a lot of the video tapes I still have are not brilliant, but some of them are (as far as I know) unavailable on DVD, including the final Crowded House concert, Pink Floyd's Momentary Lapse of Reason concert and Mano Negra live.  And then there are all those Eddie Izzard tapes, the Laurel & Hardy films, and events recorded off TV like Jean Michel Jarre at the pyramids, Circus Archaos and the African Proms from the mid-90s.

And then there all those French films I taped to help me in my failed attempt to improve my French vocabulary, the Bill Hicks, Robin Williams and Ben Elton live tapes and my sister's wedding video. I hardly know where to start.
