Thales

Until today, Thales only meant two things to me: the Greek philosopher and the French defence group which owns the company I work for, but this morning a colleague sent me a link to yet another Thales – this time a Finnish "melodic death metal" band.

I know. Finnish death metal… its all the rage since the Eurovision. Out of curiosity I had a look at the band's website and downloaded their MP3s (which are available free from their site) and they are not that bad at all.  Not only that, but their website is a good one. Apart from the MP3s there are lyrics for the downloadable songs, guitar tabs and wallpapers.

I think I will be downloading the wallpapers. Much more fun than the official Thales corporate wallpaper!

I'm not so sure that the band name is a coincidence though. Some of the lyrics sound like they were written by someone who has had to work in the windowless, condemned ex-telephone exchange shack where I work…

When no man was to be blamed for his faults
Ignorance was the way out.

or

A tinge of ominous red across the darkening heaven,
a jackdaw perched on the gallows.
Three pensive men of faith,
two hundred credulous fools.
