Amazon: the devil in disguise

June 2nd, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Technology · No Comments · Technology

I know we all complain about Amazon sending inappropriate recommendations (especially Jo) but sometimes its a lot worse when they send appropriate recommendations. At least I am not going to be tempted by offers of books about Charmed just because I once bought a boxset for Jayne.

Today's e-mail was an almost unbearable temptation of satanic proprtions…   When you have bought a nice techie toy like a camera or MP3 player it should be a while before you even think about replacing it: but but Amazon have the measure of geeks don't they?

Having bought a Fujifilm E550 camera last year I was perfectly happy until this evening.  I really wanted the F10, but at the time it cost a bit more. Since then teh price of the F10 has dropped below what the E550 cost me, but I had grown attached to the E550 by then.

And how Amazon are waving the new E900 in front of me. If I did not have a digital camera I would be snapping this up straight away, as Fujifilm have kept all the good features of the E550, but made a few of them a little better (9 megapixels instead of 6 and a 4x optical zoom instead of 3x for example) and… they have done it in black!

Mind you, Fujifilm do still persist in supplying the camera with a 16Mb XD card.  You have to wonder why they bother – that will hold about 1 photo.

Its lucky for me that I don't have a couple of hundred spare right now to spend on something I don't really need.
