Gobsmacked again!

The other football news is overshadowed by the last-minute transfer deals, but is far from trivial for those of us in Crawley.

Although full details of yesterday’s meeting have not been made public, Crawley Town FC’s creditors have agreed to accept the SA Retail Group’s revised offer of 50p in the pound and will not therefore go into liquidation.

This means, of course, that the season does not end now and the club can build on its flying start to try and avoid relegation despite the 10-point deduction for going into administration. It also means that the Majeeds still own the club, which is not such an appealing prospect. Non League Daily describes this as “Joy for Crawley” which is putting it a bit strong. Mixed feelings would be more accurate.

Personally, if I was a creditor I would have wanted to know more about Matthew Pearson’s proposed offer of full payment within 12 months instead of settling for 50p now, or even his revised proposals of full payment in 6 months or 57p immediately. On the face of it his offers looked like better value for the creditors and his background looks more appealing from a football supporter’s point of view.

But its all done now, and on Saturday we have a chance to get into positive points and maybe even climb off the foot of the table.
