Sussex Army Cadets

August 19th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Life/Politics · 1 Comment · Life, Politics

Today Jayne went down to Folkstone where the Sussex Army Cadets had a parade to be presented with a new banner, the old one being retired after 40 years of service.  It gave her a chance to see Chrystal who has been down there for two weeks on annual camp.

This was a big deal for the army cadets – they don't get a new flag every year – and all the cadets from all over East and West Sussex were there parading together in front of VIPs and however many parents were able to make it.

When Jayne found out that our MP was going down she managed to arrange a car-share with her but also found out that, at that time, of all the MPs invited ours was the only one who had replied. I don't know it it was all the Sussex MPs who were invited, or just those who had cadets from their area attending, but either way that is pretty shabby.  Even if they are away on holiday – not an unreasonable thing at this time of year – they could respond.

I don't know if any other MPs did make it in the end. I know that the leader of West Sussex county council was there, so at least Crawley was well-represented even if nowhere else was.

I don't think that a lot of Laura's critics realise how much time she puts in to this sort of thing.  I know she had to rush back to get up to London and for her own convenience she could have done without a trip to Folkestone and back. Also, as an ex-sea cadet (I think) she has no particular ties to the army but she went there to provide support for the Crawley cadets.

Her regular stalkers are only too happy to write letters to the local papers if they think they have seen her using a hosepipe, but they don't mention this sort of thing.  As for the hose pipe, it was connected to one of her many water butts and being used by her son's girlfriend. She wasn't there as she was probably at yet another unheralded engagement.
