The Langdon Players

August 15th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 3 Comments · Life

The Langdon Players were an amateur dramatics group which was active in Laindon, Essex in the 1950s/1960s. I don’t know when they started up although I believe they were around in the 1930s and I am not sure when they disappeared. All I do know is that several people who were involved in The Langdon Players have been having reunions, with another one planned later this year, and they are trying to get in touch with any ex-members.

What I am doing here is making sure that something exists on the Internet with the name Langdon Players mentioned often enough so that if any ex-members do a search for Langdon Players they are likely to find this page. I am obviously far too young to have been involved myself but both my parents were active in the Langdon Players and if any ex-members get in touch with me I will pass their details on so they can get in touch with Cliff Skudder, Dorothy (Dot) Mathews and all the rest.

They really could do with their own website to publicise their reunions and show off the Langdon Players memorabilia they have collected. Its a conclusion they are starting to come to themselves, and since none of them have a clue how to set one up I think I can see myself getting volunteered…

Hi Andrew – As you know, this whole Langdon Player Reunion idea was your dad’s idea and it would be rather nice if we could “volunteer you” to sort out the website and dedicate it to his memory.

We weren’t going to have any more Reunions after your dad’s death, but by Popular Demand and the fact that there is an “Old Player” visiting from Oz this year, we are having a Bit of a Do on Thursday 25 September. It would be lovely if you and Jayne could be here too. I would even cut some sandwiches straight rather in triangles 😉

    Love

    Hi,
Thanks to the Langdon Players who came to my father Walter’s funeral on June 11th. I’m sorry that I didn’t get to speak to you, but myself and my brothrs were really pleased that you came. I would be really interested to hear any stories about my young mother and father and all about the Langdon Players.
    Thank you,
    Alex Jagger (Kneller)
