I still cannot believe this story about the publishers who are being sued for publishing an autobiography which turns out to have bits made up in it.
It must be a very rare individual who could write their life story and not do something to embellish it a bit. Even if they did not make stuff up completely they would at least put a bit of spin on it, or exaggerate some areas and gloss over others.
If this constitutes a legal precedent how will any politician ever get their memoirs published?
Another thought which just struck me. Could a purchaser of A.N Wilson’s biography of Betjeman sue because one of the letters was not genuine? (And wasn’t that a great story!)
