Steve Irwin

September 4th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 2 Comments · Life

After seeing Steve Irwin scooping up deadly snakes, juggling deadly spiders and hanging out with crocodiles (deadly of course) todays news that he has been killed by wildlife should be no surprise, but after surviving some of the most dangerous creatures in the world it is a bit of a shock to see him finished off by a stingray.

Some would say it serves him right, and it was an accident just waiting to happen after he has made a career of tempting fate, but I reckon he was OK. He genuinely liked the animals which everyone else just saw as pests or threats, and his films were a way of funding the conservation work he did, and which meant so much to him.

So he was a bit of a fool to put himself in harm’s way so often but to many he was a symbol of the Aussie spirit, a larrikin chancer who took one chance too many.

I nearly choked listening to 5 Live to hear a very tearful Aussie describing him as ‘our Princess Di’. The thought of Steve Irwin dancing with Wayne Sleep really got to me…..

I think it might just be referring to his hairstyle 🙂

Perish the thought that the Aussie equivalent of the Daily Express will be trotting out tired old conspiracy theories about him in ten years…
