What I learned today

September 26th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Life · No Comments · Life

Even if we don’t realise it, we do learn something every day. Granted we may only be learning triva somedays. Maybe we need to train ourselves to recognise when we are learning something. I am always surprised if I ask the kids in the evening what they learned at school and they say “nothing”.

Anyway, what I learned today is that The crucial scenes of Antonioni’s film Blow Up were filmed in a place called Maryon Park. I always assumed it was somewhere in West London, not too far from Chelsea but it was a park in Charlton. According to Where Did They Film That? parts of the film were shot in Chiswick which is where I got the West London vibe from, but I never imagined the park was over the other side of town, just off the Woolwich Road.

I wish I had known during the ten years I lived just a few miles away. Antonioni is probably my favourite director and Blow Up is one of my favourite films, and it is frustrating to think of all those weekends when I could have just cycled over there from Lewisham.
