I learned something utterly trivial but brilliant today.
The Hush Puppies shoes were named after a type of fried cornballs, which got their name because farmers in the Southern US used to throw them at their dogs to stop them barking. At the time ‘barking dogs’ was a term for sore feet.

There is always going to be some idiot who takes it all seriously. No names - you know who you are. Not that anyone reads all this stuff at the bottom anyway, not when there is more exciting stuff to do like watching paint dry...
