The moribund Crawley UAF received an e-mail today from a concerned resident of Horsham. Itsaid:
Hi there – the BNP are fielding a candidate in the up and coming Denne Ward by election in Horsham, West Sussex. What can be done to ensure this scum do not even get a toe hold?
What indeed?
I have suggested two possible courses of action which anyone in Horsham could follow.
- Write to the local newspapers, making it plain how you feel. Encourage others to do the same.
- Pick a ‘normal’ political party who is also fielding a candidate and ask them if they want any help delivering their leaflets.
There is a third option of finding enough like-minded souls and getting organised to found a Horsham branch of UAF which can then actively campaign against BNP activity but I didn’t suggest that. Its not the sort of thing you can do in a hurry and as we have found in Crawley it is not that easy.
Of course, if the Crawley UAF had any more substance than just a website it could pay a visit to distribute anti-BNP literature. Most of the people in Crawley who would be likely to get involved in the UAF are currently pre-occupied with the whole council house transfer business at the moment. Maybe there will be more chance of getting something up and running after the tenants’ ballot.
