Don’t mention the war!

The cod war that is.

Seriously though: I, for one, welcome our new Icelandic overlords. (*)

For a start, they are not the Kia Joorabchian-Eli Papouchaldo-Boris Berezovsky/Platon Elenin consortium. Eggert Magnusson and Bjorgolfor Gudmundsson do seem to be genuinely interested and enthusiastic about football.

One clue is that the other lot were rumoured to have the attitude of just buying the most expensive players they could get, regardless of whether they would fit in the team (a bit like Tevez and Mascherano?) and to extend the big-name-at-all-costs approach to management as well by replacing Pardew with Sven. By contrast, Magnusson has started by saying he will stick with Pardew and give him some funds for the next transfer window.

Obviously change is always disturbing, but I think most Hammers will be quite relieved at the news – we all know it could have been a whole lot worse.

I checked out the Iceland overlords link and I can’t decide if I like the UEFA connection best or the biscuit manufacturing. Both are probably good.
Do you think any of the papers are sufficiently well-read to go for headlines with a Saga theme? (I’m thinking literary here, not wrinkly’s holidays)

A bit subtle. Best to stick with the obvious Bjork and cod war references I think.

We could try and work on a Magnus Magnusson theme as they appear to be taking the view that Pardew has started so he can finish.

I shall, of course, be changing my name to Andrew Cliffordson on the deed poll website.
