The Science Museum have an exhibition called Game On. Looks like fun: it is dedicated to the history of computer games from the earliest, right up to the latest.
It is £8.50 but you do have the opportunity to play lots of the games. I think that if I went I would not get any further than section one (of 13) which has original arcade consoles to play such ancient masterpieces as Space Invaders, Galaxians, Asteroids, Missile Command and Galaga. Unfortunately there is no mention of Scramble, Defender, Tank Commander, Buck Rogers and Up Periscope.
There are lots of more recent and more technologically advanced games, but I would go for the ‘heritage games’ personally. Just reading about it all makes me tempted to go and dig the Sega Megadrive out of the loft… but first another game of Car Park Pong where two cars bat a shopping trolley back and forth.
Will be taking my son to this at the weekend – getting him to leave at the end of the day will be interesting!
