This week I took a couple of lunchtime walks in the Vauxhall direction. The first day I took the train to Vauxhall and them walked back to Waterloo.
It was an opportunity to see from ground level a lot of the places which I see from the train window every day. First of all I went across the park behind the station, which I now know is called Spring Gardens, and had a look at the Vauxhall City Zoo. One day I must go back and spend some time there instead of just looking through the fence.
They have some seriously large and scary cockerels there!
The journey back to work was totally disorientating. Everything was both familiar yet strange as it was all seen from a new perspective. That whole area is one I have hardly been to on foot, only driving through it a few times when I lived in South London and passing over it on the trains. As far as possible I tried to keep close to the railway line, but I did find myself actually going along Lambeth Walk. (oi!)
I resisted the temptation to do the appropriate movements.
