The boy done good!

Charlie went to a party at the Civic Hall tonight.  It was something organised for pupils in various schools who are involved in volunteering.  They had a local youth band playing there – 84MM – who Charlie says were very good.

Since he enjoyed that I am now really wishing I had taken him to the concert at the Dormans youth club last night as they were one of the bands playing there.  But he wasn't too enthusiastic about it and I didn't get home early enough in any case.

Anyway, back to tonight.  Charlie got presented with an award for his volunteering at the school, which his teacher immediately took off him so he can be re-presented with it at assembly tomorrow. What a great idea it all is though. The party was a good way to show some appreciation to kids who are doing voluntary work and any incentives in this area have to be a positive step towards getting the volunteering habit ingrained at an early age.

    Well done Charlie!

    Absolutely.
All the more impressive because we don’t do anything to encourage him.

That sounds bad. What I mean is that we don’t push him into anything. If he says he wants to do something then we will support and encourage him obviously.

I think the school does a lot to provide an environment where the pupils will want to do useful things. The annual young citizen event helps too – but it is a one-off and Manor Green does a good job of re-inforcing all that.
