On the advice of my favourite Timelord over at Wongablog, I downloaded and installed Bad Behavior (*) to try and stem the flow of spam, which was getting annoying – it was not unusual to be getting more than 100 spam comments in an hour which were not picked up by Akismet and which had to be dealt with manually in the moderation queue.
In the seven hours since installing it I have only had a trickle of spam reaching Akismet and even less needing moderation. Meanwhile, Bad behavior itself tells me that it has blocked 2125 access attempts. I have known of this little utility for ages and I am really kicking myself for not bothering to install it earlier.
* – yes they do spell it that way!
