Computer Lessons

January 30th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Technology · No Comments · Technology

I had a visit today from the Mother and Godmother so I could give tem some lessons in how to set their website up.

Talk about bridging the generation gap! I’m not sure who had the biggest culture shock – them coming to terms with file transfers, image re-sizing and database structure or me trying to get deal with someone who doesn’t just ‘get’ these things…

Its quite a big project they have taken on though: a website for a now-defunct amateur theatre company. They have copies of programmes and photographs from productions going back to the early 1900s all the way through to the 1960s scanned in, and the website will have all of that on there, plus information about reunions and the like. I have persuaded them to use WordPress for it on the grounds that it will do the job and its easier for me to teach something I am familiar with myself.

I think I will wait until it gets a bit more populated before the next stage – finding loads of other Essex local history sites and getting them to link to it.
