Waterloo Studios

It has been busy at the Waterloo Film Studio (previously known as Waterloo Station) this week.

For the third time in 6 months the station has been full of movie cameras, lights, and assorted paraphernalia. The first time was only for a day or two over a weekend for a sequence in a Bollywood film. Really.

The second time filming lasted for a week. Spur Rd was jammed with trucks full of equipment and every morning there was a queue of extras waiting to go into the station pub for whatever preparations they needed. Walking across the concourse during the day involved dodging speeding trolleys with cameras on, and there was a helicopter hovering over the station and the South Bank for a whole day. That was apparently (I found out via kind commenter) filming for a new Bourne movie.

This week the trucks re-appeared. I don't know if it is more shooting for Bourne. The trucks and crew look the same but then I am sure the same hire equipment and staff get used for lots of films.

It would be nice to think that after having a Bollywood film and a Hollywood film shot in Waterloo that this current one is a Nollywood film to complete the set – but I think that is a little unlikely.

What I do know is that it is very disorienting to go into the station at a time when it is usually fairly quiet and find that it is empty at one end and suddenly jam-packed in the middle.  I do wonder what the train passengers think when they arrive at, say, 11am having travelled at that time to avoid the rush-hour crowds, get through the ticket barrier and find themselves in a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd.

I think its brilliant!  A little bit of variety to spice up my last few weeks working in London.
