I have been pondering the implication of new rules for the music charts: not only allowing downloads to count, but not having to have any physical product available in the shops.
The question is this: if someone downloads, say, the new Amy Winehouse album which includes a couple of singles in the charts, would that count as one sale for each of the singles? Does it make a difference if you download a track as part of an album or on its own? If you download an album track-by-track is it treated differently to downloading the whole album as a package?
There must be something to prevent a really big-selling album resulting in its tracks, including 'filler', taking up the top 12 places in the singles chart… mustn't there?
