Disgusting profligates beaten by West Ham

April 7th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 5 Comments · Life

That was the headline on Football365‘s front page today. Apparently Arsenal had 29 attempts on goal while West Ham had about 4.

It has been an unexpectedly good weekend so far. This afternoon I went down to Broadfield Park to take some pictures and stay away from the football results, expecting West Ham to get a battering from Arsenal. I came home about 15 minutes from full-time and found we were 1-0 up.

I should have stayed out a bit longer as it turned into a very long and tense 15 minutes, but somehow the Hammers clung on and became the first away team to win at the Emirates and the first away team to keep a clean sheet. Three wins in a row now, and to make it even better Sheffield and Wigan lost and Charlton only managed a draw so things are looking a lot less bleak than they were a month ago.

A bit early to get excited as our last 6 games include playing Chelsea and Man Utd. but also a 6-pointer against Sheffield. Time to get all those fingers crossed!

Meanwhile, Crawley Town won up at Stafford. Mathematically they are not safe because the whole bottom half of the conference is tight, but its looking good for Crawley. If we had not had those 10 points deducted we would probably be chasing a play-off place!

A nice result. I would like to think that the recent results indicate that we may avoid the drop. The pessimist in me fears not.

It seems that I have a new local league side. Well done the Daggers!

Its a nice run of results but I think its too late. Next week’s six-pointer against Sheffield is the important one.

Lose that and we might as well give up.

Agreed. I will be keeping teh fingers crossed and praying to every deity from Allah to the small gods of the Discworld for enough points to stay up!

We’ve just been down to London for the weekend and sent bad thoughts at the Emirates Stadium as we passed late Saturday morning. Saw David today and he’s asked for a few repeat performances in the coming weeks…..

Any chance of you taking a drive out to Sheffield some time in the next week? Its not too far away for you is it?
