How much is a point worth?

April 27th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 2 Comments · Life

The FA have decided not to dock any points from West Ham over the Mascherano/Tevez deal, but have imposed an enormous £5.5 million fine. The suggestion is that if the Hammers had been in mid-table obscurity and security we might have got some points deducted instead, perhaps with a smaller fine on top.

Whether the actual punishment is better or not rather depends on the last three games. If we manage to scrape through and narrowly escape relegation the fine might seem like a bargain – be honest if the team had the chance to buy three points now for £5 million they would jump at the chance wouldn’t they? When teams pay over the odds for ‘galacticos’ like Shevchenko that is the same sort of thing isn’t it?

If we go down, on the other hand, we might think it would have been better to lose points and keep the money, which we can ill afford if we lose out on all the Premier League income.

The only silver lining is that we are allowed to play Tevez if we want to. Originally it looked like we would not be able to unless we re-signed him or something.

I’m sure we will all be happy and consider it money well spent if the fairytale ending comes about – survival acheived on the last day when we beat Manchester Utd with an injury-time goal by Tevez which also stop MU winning the league.

I think the Hammers were very lucky Skuds.

Lucky? Maybe – depends how it all turns out. Its our turn for a bit of luck though. Might have been a lot different if it had been a deliberate act rather than a cock-up.
