On Friday Jayne went up to Bassingbourne to see our nephew’s passing out parade, which really was a literal case of it rainign on someone’s parade, because it was pissing down.
The whole thing was filmed by the army and available for sale in DVD form an hour or so after the end of the formalities, which is quite an impressive bit of logistics.
Tonight we went round to watch the DVD, and it seemed to go on for ever. All the time I couldn’t help thinking how miserable it must have been to have to spend so much time standing perfectly still in the middle of a parade ground in torrential rain. But then again, it was probably nothing compared to all the other stuff they have had to do over the weeks of basic training.
Some nice big splashes when 102 new soldiers all have to come to attention together in an inch or two of water.
I’ll admit I was a bit sceptical when Matthew said he was going to join the army but he really has taken to it and there is something different about him now.
