It sometimes feels like we are a bit obsessed with Sudoku, but I was surprised, I don’t nkow why,to see that the French share our interest.
While visiting Calais at the weekend I could not believe how many sudoku books and magazines there were. I saw one bloke in the park doing a puzzle in his newspaper which was 5 interlinked sudokus (so a total of 369 boxes) which I now know is called a ‘samourai’ sudoku
I’m a bit bored with it myself, but I bought a book because it had some ‘killer sudoku’ puzzles in it, plus some kakuro and futoshiki puzzles which I find more fun to do. Its a bi-monthly book and the publishers list another 3 bi-monthly sudoku publications on the back and a whole pile of books are listed inside. And they have plenty of competition – I think their shops had even more puzzle books than our do.
I still find that the kakuro, killer sudoku and futoshiki puzzles in these books are nowhere near as good as the ones in the Guardian. Far too easy.
