Labour win something in Horsham!

February 27th, 2008 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 3 Comments · Life

A small victory, but something to build on. We went along to quiz night at the Broadbridge Heath village hall and came equal first.

Unfortunately there can only be one winner, and we messed up the tie-breaker question so we only came away with some easter eggs and wine rather than some cash for the party funds, but we had a good time and learned a few things. It was a little distracting to see Crawley Town getting absolutely thumped by Aldershot in extra time on the big screen, but we can’t blame our result on that.

The tie-breaker was to guess how many goals have been scored so far this season in the premier league. I was a bit gobsmacked to hear how many it actually was. Our guess was not much higher than the number of goals scored just by the top 6 clubs alone.

The scoring was one of those affairs where you swap sheets with the next table for marking, and the biggest laugh of the night was seeing that they put down that the last book in the New testament was Thunderball…

When we go to our local quiz we get two answer sheets – one for proper written answers (although if we don’t know Rob insists on putting Honor Blackman as the answer) and the other for a pictorial representation of the answers. We like to unsettle the other teams by insisting they mark our pictures too….

I think Alan Davies takes a similar approach to Rob in QI – if he doesn’t know the answer he tries ‘blue whale’.

I like the idea of a second answer sheet, but I would use for what the answer should be if natural justice and hilarity was the criteria instead of just being correct.

We usually work on the theory that just being correct is over-rated….
