February 18th, 2008 · Comments Off on Beach burns down · Life

A couple of Argus headlines 2:52pm, Saturday 16th Feb Fire chiefs warn about washed up wood bonfires 8:34am, Sunday 17th Feb Washed up timber set alight The free-for-all comment section on the second story raises most of the points that occurred to me, like: Is all that wood still there? Was it an amazing piece […]

A moggie for the 21st Century?

February 17th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Technology

In 1998 Volkswagen launched the New Beetle – an updated version of the old classic. In 2001 we had the Mini resurrected and re-imagined as the MINI by BMW.  This year it is Fiat’s turn to launch a modern version of a legendary small car with the cinquecento launched as the new Fiat 500.

Speed isn’t everything

February 16th, 2008 · Comments Off on Speed isn’t everything · Technology

Today I had an e-mail from Virgin to tell me that my broadband is going to be upgraded from 4Mb/s to 10Mb/s.   I won’t complain about that at all.  It sort of vindicates my decision to go with them and not Sky – a decision based on preferring the technology of fibre to the street […]

Double helpings

February 13th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Life

Crawley Town are apparently on the TV for a second time this week, when Ebbsfleet visit the Broadfield Stadium on Thursday evening.  They were on Setanta Sunday night, playing Forest Green.  That was a bit of a disappointment though – the previous two games were wins of 8-0 and 4-0 and then when they played […]

For those about to rock…

February 13th, 2008 · Comments Off on For those about to rock… · Music, Technology

I don’t have a DAB radio, although I played with one for a bit once.  I can’t comment on the sound quality that a lot of listeners have criticised because I am a bit cloth-eared, but I liked the displays of information that were available.

The art of Spain

February 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Life

I was at a loose end tonight, waiting for the battery on the cordless screwdriver to charge up so I could fix the door Charlie knocked off its hinges when he tripped over – so just a normal Tuesday evening – and passed it by looking through the programmes available ‘on demand’ from the last […]

No sex please, we’re British

February 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Life

I see the moral vocal minority have succeeded in getting an application for a sex shop turned down in Worthing. Again.
