Staying put

February 21st, 2008 · Posted by Skuds in Work · 6 Comments · Work

Well I am not moving to France.  There was a slight possibility of an opportunity at work that came totally out of the blue and I pursued it, but ultimately it came to nothing.

It isn’t a huge disappointment: I am more than happy with my job and wasn’t looking for anything else, but the idea of spending a year or two living on the outskirts of Paris and improving my grasp of the language was a bit tempting.

I’ll just have to continue listening to the Elmer Food Beat and Niagara CDs in a vain attempt to get my accent right.

mai 68 ,and 40 years on, action replay 2008?
    Best avoided anyway?

Quel dommage. Would have been good to have someone to visit in France!

Indeed – quelle histoire, but I reckon I would have ended up renting someone’s spare room in the French equivalent of Harlow rather than having a nice apartment.

I can’t see a reprise of May 68 though. Maybe more of the riots in the banlieues in the summer, but I think the students are more career-minded now than they used to be.

Sadly today’s students would want to know what the revolution would do for them personally. And would they still have to pay off their student loans?
I sure if France has an equivalent of Harlow they wouldn’t want anybody to know about it. You just wouldn’t be allowed to see it. Maybe by the use of a huge SEP field generator.

By the way, I was not just plucking the name of Harlow out of the air… the area next door to where our offices are (Vélizy-Villacoublay – where I used to visit the ICL offices) is actually twinned with Harlow

Was thinking more of the workers here, after all there were 9 to 10 million of them out in 68 and I beleive Monsieur Sarkozy is still trying to increase the minimum working week?
Students, maybe you’re right there Skuds but in Rennes last year at the Uni there I saw a fight between two students over politics – here you might get students having a fight over the last kit-kat in the vending machine but politics – no chance lol
