Are you in Brighton?

April 14th, 2008 · Posted by Skuds in Politics · 2 Comments · Politics

I know I have a few readers from Brighton, several of whom I have met and jolly nice people they are too.  Anyway, this is a message aimed right at the Brighton-dwelling, left-leaning, sorts.

As far as I know, there are no elections in Brighton & Hove this year and you may be feeling at a loose end.  If you feel the need for some sort of displacement activity the Wealden UAF have just the thing for you!  The BNP are standing in 10 wards in the Crawley and Reigate & Banstead boroughs.  Some of these wards have extremely low turnouts – lower than 25% – in other words just the sort of place the BNP like to be in.

Wealden UAF are out delivering leaflets, talking to voters and, more importantly, talking to non-voters.  They are reaching out to those thousands of people who reject the far right’s ideology and policies but don’t actually vote at all to persuade them to actually use their votes to register their dislike of the BNP and make sure the BNP can see where they are not wanted.

There will be things going on most evenings and weekends but many members of the Wealden UAF are involved in political parties who are fighting elections and therefore have other demands on their time so any extra hands are more than welcome.  Just contact the Wealden UAF if you fancy a trip to the wilds of Reigate & Banstead or Crawley.

Obviously I’m nowhere near Brighton but I was looking at the Hope Not Hate website the other day (another BNP candidate in Queensbury – hardly bears thinking about, and I really don’t want to have to move…) and noticed that a lot of UAF groups are affiliated/linked on there. Worth a look maybe? They are at http://www.hopenothate.org.uk

Good call. I’ve asked them to include the Wealden UAF in their list.

No idea why the Brighton & Hove UAF isn’t there though. People in Brighton might be more likely to be going along to Worthing where the BNP are also standing, but maybe they fancy venturing inland for a change…
