I visited our Leicester site today, driving all the way there and back in one day just for a few meetings.  Not great for the carbon footprint I know, but I have been in the job for a year and so far I have managed to do everything by videoconference and it was about time I saw what the place was like.  What a journey though!

We have people who do that two or three times a week, and I’m sure many other people in other companies have just as much driving.  I can only think they are mad to do it, and if not they are bound to be driven mad by it eventually.   Its only about 140 miles (only?) but it took over three hours to get up there and about three-and-a-half hours to get back.  Add on the time to get to work to pick up the pool car and I must have been on the road for about 7 hours today..   just a normal day for many people I am sure.

It would have been a good opportunity to learn another language on CD or something, but I don’t know how distracting that might be,when added to the constant interruptions of the sat-nav with illogical directions like telling me to come off the motorway, take the second exit on the roundabout and re-join the same bloody motorway.

On the rare occasions I do have to go anywhere by road on a weekday I am always gobsmacked by the sheer numbers of cars out there.
